  • Healthy thyroid function and metabolism: Iodine, selenium, zinc and vitamin E all play a significant role in the synthesis and regulation of thyroid hormones.3,4,5 Thyroxine (T4) has four molecules of iodine and is converted to the biologically active thyroid hormone triiodothyronine (T3) via the selenium dependant enzyme, iodothyronine deiodinase.6 Selenoproteins also play a protective role via detoxification of hydrogen peroxide (H202).7 Zinc and vitamin E also provide antioxidant activity via limiting lipid peroxidation and restricting free radical damage.5,8
